Fashion Design 12
Welcome to Fashion Design 12! This course is designed for students who have an interest in Fashion Design either as a career or as a hobby. You will go beyond commercial patters and begin creating garments of your own design. You will learn the flat-pattern method and draping to bring your designs to life. Then in third tern, you will put both of these methods together with Transformation-Reconstruction.
1st Term – using the flat-pattern method, create a skirt of your own design
2nd Term – using draping, create a shirt or dress of your own design
3rd Term – using Transformation-Reconstruction, create your own choice of garment
Fashion Friday challenges, alterations, repairs, and extra projects are also part of each term's marks.
All of the garments you create should be entered into the Grad Fashion Show.
Students in Fashion Design will also be asked to keep a sketchbook and a Fashion journal in which you reflect upon your experiences, readings, research and observations in the fashion industry. For those who plan to apply to a post-secondary Fashion program, such as Kwantlen, you should have everything you need for your portfolio by the end of this course.
