Aims and Objectives
In the Textiles component of Home Ec 8, you will learn basic sewing skills that enable you to make an apron, a pencil case and a bookbag. You will also learn to alter, repair and care for clothing that you buy.
All of the basic materials you need to complete this course can be provided for you. However, choosing your own fabrics is a big part of the creative process, so you might prefer to buy your own materials.

Assessment
This course is project-based, so all sewing must be done IN CLASS. Each project has its own criteria, which are posted along with the instructions around the room.
If you finish projects ahead of the rest of the class, you are encouraged to bring in store-bought clothing for repair or alteration. Take advantage of this class as a chance to learn to hem your own jeans, re-sew a button or fix a torn seam. You will earn marks for learning these life skills.
